BRUTAL ATTEMPT TO MURDER.

PATEA, August 3.

■A brutal attempt to murder was made here to-day at Hi Katere. 'A half-caste of Waitotara, named . Ware Te Koahu» attacked his wife, inflicted terrible wounds on her head and face, threw her; on the fire, and cleared out. The woman was found insensible, and was removed to the hospital, where she now lies m a very critical state. The hut presented an awful appearance ? being bespotted with blood. Search is being made for "Ware, but it is supposed that he has committed suicide. He was implicated m the murder of a woman at Waitotara m 1890, was a well known footballer, about sft Bin m height, and thirty years old.
