WELLINGTON, August 3,

The man Alexander died m the hospital early this morning. No season is at present known for the suicide. Dickson, a grocer, who recently filed, pleaded guilt/ to-day to a charge of not keeping proper books of account. He urged that he had erred through ignorance, and the Magistrate remanded him for report by the probation officer. •

August 4.

At the inquest on the body of Alexander, who shot himself on Friday night, no evidence was given to account for the act. The jury returned a verdict of " suicide by gun-shot."

WESTPORT. August 3.

The coal export for the week ended today was 5110 tons. The Westpoit Coal Company sent 4600 tons, and the Cardiff Company 610 tons.
