The American wheat markets are recovering after a sharp decline, and the English and Continental markets are moving m sympathy with them. Cargoes of Victorian wheat have been sold as follows : — Ex barque Mandalay, at 24s 7id ; ex ships King David and Boadicea, at 23s 3d. It is estimated that England's wheat crop 'will be 2,000,000 quarters below last season's. The total quantity of wool catalogued up to yesterday was 166,000 bales, o* which 158,000 bales have been sold. For a good selection of greasy fine combings the bidding was spirited and prices remained unchanged. American representatives made large purchases. At today's sales a good catalogue was offered and competition was spirited, prices being well maintained. At the tallow sales, owing to poor demand, holders withdrew all stocks advertised for sale. Prices have nominally declined 3d. Melbourne butter, factoiy-made, i quoted at 925. Messrs Montague Nelson, W. S. Davidson, W. S. Holmes, M. Thomson, and E. H. Byas have been appointed directors of the Nelson Co-operative Company. Ten other seats have been reserved for colonial representatives. Messrs Davidson and Thompson retire from the directorate of Nelson Bros. Limited, The advisory board of the new company m New Zealand consists of the Hon. J. G. Ward, the Hon. John McKenzie, and Mr W. Nelson. The Rothschilds will issue m London a Brazilian loan of £6.000,000 at 5 per cent, with a minimum of 85. y Brussels, July 14. The Senate has passed the protection tariff by a -majority of the Clericals. Sydney, July 15. An analysis of the sheep sales, excluding private sales, shows that New Zealand breeders sold 2019 Lincoln rams for £2339, and 283 ewes for £259 ; 402 Romney Marsh rams for £387, and 98 ewes for £188; 408 Border Leicister rams for £398, and 20 ewes for £36 ; 9 English Leicester rams for 9 guineas ; 31 Southdown iams for £119, and 288 ewes for £140. The total of 3608 sheep realised £3893. Last year 4432 sheep brought £14,340. Mr Potter, of Melbourne, has been experimenting with Broken Hill sulphides with a view of extracting zinc and making it a marketable product. He has been so far successful that plant capable of treating 100 tons of crude material daily is being erected.
