News has been received that the extensive railway engine sheds at Harden, on the Great Southern Railway, 228 miles from Sydney, are on fire. Several engines are m course of building, and the damage is certain to be heavy. The damage caused by the fire m the engine sheds at Harden is estimated at £2000. Several engines suffered slight damage. MR EDDY'S SALARY. Replying to a question by Sir G. R» Dibbs, the Premier declined to say whether the Government intended to abandon the measure providing for an

increase m Mr Eddy's salary. The Government, he said, were at present engaged on matters of infinitely more importance. A DIABOLICAL ACT. A number of aboriginals atFernmount drank a bottle of poisonous liquid, supplied by a man named John Kelly, m the belief that it was rum. In the Governor's speech a hope was expressed that a sense of justice will shortly induce Victoria to consent to an amicable and equitable settlement of the border questions, and that thus the colony will be restrained from entering on litigation over the disputed territory. APPEAL DISMISSED. Brisbane, June 7. The Full Court dismissed the appeal of Messrs Brown and Reid, who were recently nonsuited m the action brought against the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly for their expulsion from the House m September last.
