COTTAGE ALLOTMENT RULES.

At Hal-borough Ma gna ( Warwickshire > the vicar recently left fifty acres of allotments at the rate of £2 per acre. Formerly the only allotments were those- , under the landlord (rent £2 10s), who m December 1893 served all the tenants with a copy of rules, ten m number,from which the following are quoted : — "4. The tenant shall cultivate his garden by spade husbandry only, and keep it free from weeds, clean, wellmanured, and properly cultivated. He sliall not work upon it on Sundays ' nor erect any building without the landlord's previous consent m writing; neither shall he drain, nor plan.t fruit trees, otherwise the tenant shaD not be entitled to compensation for the same. " 5. 2so horse shall be used thereon except for the purpose of carting manure or taking away produce. "6. At determination of tenancy the tenant shall peaceably quit .and deliver up possession. " 10. If any rent shall be m .arrears for fouvi ren days, whether legally demanded or not . or if truant wilfully bxtsak any of the filvnvo rules, or be convicted of any oiiVncc whereby he shall be liaWe to fine or imprisonment, it shall l>e larwful for t.lie landlord to re-enter and take possession of the garden plot, and ov(?ry crop and other thing thereon, and tlie tenancy shall be determined forthwith," Among the rules formerly imposed on allotment holders m this parish wa» one which prohibited any work on the plot between six a.m. and six p.m., and another under which, if the labourer failed to attend church" regularly, Ids allotment aud all the crops upon it were forfeited !
