A cargo of Adelaide wheat, ex Benmore, sold at 24s 4£d ; and a cargo of Victorian, ex May Hill, at 24s 6d. Mr Leader, of the City of Melbourne Bank, has gone to Scotland to consult the deposit agents. Mr C. J. Stewart, official receiver, has made a call of £10 per share m the Bank of South Australia payable within one month. Sydney, March i 9. Mr Gavin Scott, who has returned from a visit to Europe, made m the interests of the timber trade, is convinced that there is a magnificent market open for Australian timber, especially for sleepers and paving blocks. The samples he "took created a good impression, and were admitted to be superior to American and other timbers. Mr Scott, who secured several trial orders, strongly advocates Government assistance m developing the trade. Special to .Press Association. London, March 18. The liquidators of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, m making a call of £22 10s per share on all the eontributories who failed to adopt the scheme of reconstruction, are simply enforcing the old call. Melbourne, March 19, The National Wool Company of Australia, have addressed a letter to the several organisations interested m the wool trade throughout the colonies on the subject of promoting a trade with China and Japan. The Premier has intimated that all the Governments with the exception of New South Wales and New Zealand have replied stating that they are agreeable to co-operate m any practical measure to promote the trade. Mr Turner has requested the company to submit a scheme for consideration.
