+_ TIMARU NAVAL ARTILLERY. The second competition for Mr W. Hall-Jones' aggregate trophy was fired off on Thursday,' the range trophy (Mr A. Budd's) being won by Gunner A. Burford. The conditions were 10 shots at s,osyds,any; position. The highest scorers were :—
AGGREGATES. Below we give the highest aggregates for the two competitions, from which it will be seen that the aggregate trophy was won by P.O. Simpson :—
THE GOVERNMENT PRIZES. Sergeant-Major Jones supplies us with they following particulars of the results of the volley and independent firing by the volunteer companies of South Canterbury for the year 1894. The columns of figures give respectively the number of men eligible to fire, the number firing, average for volley firing, and average for independent firing. Carbines. On the results the Government prize money was awarded as follows :—Carbines—Timaru Navals Ist, £8 ; C Battery 2nd, £4 6s sd. Rifles — Waimate Ist, £14; Ashburton 2nd, £8 ; Timaru 3rd, £6 10s Id ; total, £40 16s 6d.
