The Evening Post states that His Ex ■ cellency the Governor demurred to beini ' served personally with the Midland i Railway Company's notice of arbitra . tion. He contended that as Her Majesty'i representative he could not be so served He, however, exercised the power givei under the contract to nominate a sub i stitute to- receive the service, and Ik nominated the Hon. R. J. Seddon Minister of Public Works, as his sub stitute. Notice of arbitration has ■ therefore, been personally served on Mi Seddon, together with a further notice warning the Government not to alienate [ any of the land included m Map B at 1 tached to the contract, and over whieli the company claims a lien. The claim for damages to be preferred by the company against the colony on the points on which arbitration is demanded will, it is said, amount to about £1,500,000.
