TIMARU BOWLING CLUB.

* i The annual general meeting cf this club was held on Thursday afternoon at the gnev. ) J About 21 members were preieat, and Captain fiutter was voted to the chair, in the absence of the preiident, Mr 8 A Bristol, who sent an apology for his unavoidable absenoe. The balance sheet and committee's report for the past year were read and adopted. The balanoe sheet showed the reoeipts to be £65 7s 4d(inoludir.g balance brought forward of £1 16s 4d) a slight falling off from previous year's receipts. The expenditure was £74 0s Bd, an increase over last year, and outstanding j liabilities of £36 12s, principally made up of , expenditure on the green, top dressine, &o. , The report pointed out that the queition cf , r&isiDg the annual subscription to 1} guineas i had been before the oommittee, who unanimously decided that it should remain as at present, vis — 1 guinea, and that members ; ba asked to make up tbe deficiency , by epeoial subscriptions. Tbe collector, Mr Gabites, reported that members bad responded very liberally, and that the amount would all be made up. It was pointed out that the subßoription to the Timaru Olub was the lowest ia the coloDy. The report gave psrtioulars of the handiosp matches played last seaton for prisss presented by Messrs Bristol, Gow and Balfour, to wßom a oordial vote of thanks was accorded. Feding reference was made to the death of the late Mr B Timaru Bhodes, who waialife member of the olub, and always took a great interest in its welfare. It wao announced that 23 of tbe outstanding debsnturea had been presented to the olub during the year, 10 by Mr Bristol, 10 by Captain Sutler, and 3 by Mr Taylor. Only 17 debentures are now outstanding, and the committee had reason to believe these would bo presented during the year, Begret was expressed at Mr Gibson's absence through ill- health, and hope expressed that he would soon be able to be on tbe green again. The report concluded by reminding members of the debt of gratitude the olub was under to the president, Mr Bristol, for his liberality on all occasions. The eleotion of officers for the ensuing year then took place with the following result :— President, Mr William Evans, (Sir Bristol declining to Btand again) ; vice»prcßidents, Messrs H J LeOren, J H tiutter, A Perry, Dr Beid, and Captain Wray ; hon secretary, Mr M bite ; hon treasurer, Mr B B Taylor ; • commit'.ef, Messrs Gibson, Gabites, Goooh, Mee and Bamfield j ground oommittee, Messrs Gibson, Mee, Gabites and West ; match and handicap oommittee, Messrs Gooch, Grabites, Coy, and White ; auditor.Mr Stedman. Hearty votes of thanks were passed to the office-bearers for the past year |to Messrs Gabites and West for top dressing the green? to Messrs Bristol, Butter and Taylor for generously presented their debentures to tbe club} and to the ladies who so kindly provided afternoon tea at the opening and on other occasion*. The question of joining the newiy formed Bowling Association was left to the committee, and the date of opening the green was left to tbe ground oommittee. (It waj suggested that either Thursday, the 11th or 18th of Ootober would be a suitable date). Four new . members were proposed for election. . It was deoided that the secretary should forward to the late preudent a letter conveying tbe members' appreciation of bis many services to the club eioce its initiation. A/voto of thanks to the ohair terminated a very pleasant meeting. The green was then oarefully impeded and the general opiuion was that it will be gplended order for the ensuing season, in which tbe club have every reaion to believe will be quite as successful as any of the preceding seasons.
