Phenomenal rains have fallen around Kempaey, the records showing 8 and 9 inches for 24 hours. There are now signs of the weather breaking. Adelaide, March 7. It ia the approach to the railway bridge, , and not the structnre itself, that has been carried away by floods. Brisbane, March 7. &.t the Wealeyan Conference the Rev. Mr Payne made serious charges against whiles residing m the far north. FLOODS IN NEW SOUTH WALES.
Sydney, March 7. The floods m the Newcastle district are of a serious character, and relief boats are held m readiness m case of emergency. The Hunter, Williams, and Patterson rivers are m high flood, and a disastrous inundation is feared. In many parts of the district the people are deserting their dwellings.
COLLISIONS AND GREAT LOSS OF LIFE.
Thursday Island, March 7. Hong Kong files report that the steamer HaDg Chow collided with an unknown Bteamer, which sank immediately, not, a soul on board being saved. Another collision occurred m the Straits of Malacca between two Chinese steamers, one sank immediately and the other shortly afterwards, a total of 45 lives being lost. Received 1 p.m., March 7th. THE ROTOMAHANA. Sydney, March 7. Arrived — Rotomahana, from Auckland. THE TARAWERA. Arrived— Tarawera, from Wellington. Received 2.35 p.m., March 7th. THE DORIC. Hobabt, March 7. Arrived — Doric, from London via, Capetown, at 8 o'clock this morning.. She resumes her rsyage to Auckland at 6 o'clock this evening. She has seven pas- ! sengers for Australia, and 63 for New Zealand. Among the latter ia Sir Walter Buller, who is booked to Wellington.
