WAIMATE CALEDONIAN SPORTS.
The Caledonian Soa'mty of Waimate held their annual sports m Victoria Park on Boxing Day. The weather was hot and ditagreeable, but still the attendance »»f fairly good, and there wore goad fielde m ejosfc cases, especially m tho race?. In Saotcb music and dancing the McKeobnie family won all the chief prizes, D. MoKecbnie being first id all muaio. Th*iir playing and dancing wa» very good, but; there vern )}>»Py people present who regretted the want o/<2o&?9*tjtiou. In the three mile, and five milabioyole rstitf, i F. McG-owan had easy wins, and the fie'ds! wcr* jwor. The athletic events were fairly well cocte.9ied. B. Bettaa won the 100 yards, the 200 yawjs, the 410 yards ; W. May the iiO yards hurdlf,*, the 830 yards, tbe one mils and the 2 mile champion race (there being only four competitors m tbe latter) ; Johnstone, James, Tripp, .(Jilchtjjt, O'Brien, and Courtney, being other »,upnß^« who got into places, and secured tnvpor prizes. H. Dunn again won tbe cup tor tin open throe style wrestlmg oompetition, and it thus becomes his property. F. Ball was seuond and Dunn third, and as these were the only competitors tbe diiploy was eicefdinply poor. Hall and J. Duoli wore the first to meet, tho Utter falline, and m the next bout E. Dunn simply disposed of Hall. Tn the houvy hammer throwing F. Hall (6£t) wss first with 6»ft Oin ; W. WndetLj .ffoa the hop, alnp and jump, 39ft l iv, and the high aumjj, stt 4ic ; D. 8.
