' (By Telegraph.) WELLINGTON, Feb. 4. Beturnß published In the Gazette show that the total estimated population of the colony (inclusive of Maoris) on the 3lst December, 1891, was 675,775, made up of 353,913 males aud 316,862 female!. The increase from the sth April (the date on i which the cenens waß taken) to the 31st ; December, was 7399. The excess of births i over deathß for that period was 9045, but : from this had to be taken 1846, representing i tho excess of departures over arrivals. The interpretation of " Tho Customs and Excise Duties Act, 1583," m regard to certain I 'articles by the Commissioner of Trade and j Customs is contained m to-night's Gazette.
