NEW SOUTH WALES HARVEST.

SYDNH.Y, Jan. 25. Mr Cogh'an, the Government Statistician, has supplied the Colonial Secretary with preliminary returns of the punt wheat harvest, which shows a yield of ]3i to 13 bushels per aprp, Tho result is bettor than that of tho previous year, when 10 95 bushels was the official average, but it is barely equal to the general average for tho past thirly years, which is 13.22 per acre. In the northern district there was a yield of 15 25 bushela, while the eastern district only renched 11.5 bushels. There his been a decrease of from S per cent, to 30 per cent, according to the locality m tho aroa cropped, the largest decline being m the Inverell, Glen Innop, Tamworth, and Mamoi districts. Some increases have, however, to be noted, par? tioularly m tho southern districts. Tho total area croppod was 318,285 aores as agaimt 333,233 last year, and 419,758 acres m tho year before that The reduotion m the area was caußed by the inability of the farmers to bow seed owinij to the excessive rains, and to a portion of the crop being cut for fodder. As the requirements of New South Wales for 1892 are calculated on the basis of an average consumption of brpadstuff9 of about 64 bushels per head, they will amount to about 7,250,000 bushels, exclusive of seed wheat, anc] from 3,850,000 to 4 000,000 bushels will have to be imported. The grain is said to be of very good quality, and superior to that bavvestnrl m the previous year. A bettor return would certainly have been obtained but for the rust and " take all."
