Tho ordinary monthly mcotiDg of the Wai miito Borough Council was held on Mondaj ovoninglaat. There vrro present Hia Worahif t.bo Mayor, m tho chair, and Councillors H. Watts, Coltmun, Jones, Pelit, Oamoron, anc A. Watt. Correspondent was read as follows : — From tho Audit Inspector, Btating that hi had audited tho books. From Mr D. M, Roes, Public Trustee, asking for a formal demand o£ the rate fo: riponco'e eatuto. From the cleric, stating that he had paic hia fidelity bond, and he now laid the receip forperueal on the table. From the Fire Brigade, handing m thai balanco sheet and asking for nho subsidy. — I naa decided to got the lid of tho under ground tank altered, so a* to admit a hose the present mothod of opening being fouuc too cumbersome. — Tho application for i subsidy was considered, and fcho sum of £3( voted. From tho Prohibition League, asking wha charge would be made for tho übo of the hal for holding maetings m. — Tbo ehargo wa fixed utss,por night. Tho olork Jaßked tho Council to empowe
esihiin to have the window m the hall refrosted re and repaired. — It wbb deoided to invite tenders for the work. le Councillor Coltman thought that something n should bo done to remove tlio obstruction of d people congregating m tho etreets. i- Counoillor Watts thought it was the duty 6 of the police to ntto&d to the matter. 11 Tho Mayor considered it the duty of tho c police. They should see that tho bye-law was t carried out. c Councillor A, Watt objected to tho people • oongrsg&ting, more especially on Sunday. - On Saturday night when a number of people s came to town, they mot m the streets and t bad a ohat. Ho did not think there waß so y much harm m that, but he objected to tho 0 obstruction on Sunday when there was really 3 no excuse for it. It was rosolvod that a letter be sent to the , Sergeant of Police, requesting him to do his f best to have tho objection removed. A counoillor thought it would bo a step m the right direotion to have cattle and sheep 1 yards erected somewhere m tho town, as it i would be a direct gain to the town to have i, regular «ales hold. 9 It wa) considered that the cost would be too great, but a committee consulting of couns oillots Jones, Petit, H. Watts, Cameron, and Inkster were appoiotod to ouquiro into tho - oost, eto. 9 A resolution was passed voting tho sum of 1 £56 16s lid towards paying off the library overdraft, tho sum to be charged to tho 7 library account. i Accounts amounting to £44 1b 10d, on > general account, and £1 10.', on deposit ac- ; count, wero pissed for payment, and the council roBS.
