GERALDINE FLORAL SOCIETY.

The sixth annual meeting of the Geraldine Floral, Horticultural and Industrial Association wtis held m the Oddfollows' Hall, Geraldine, on Friday evening last. The chair was taken by Dr Fish, the president. The following report was read :— " Your committe9 have much pleasure m presenting to you their annual report on the work done by them, and the progress the eociety has made under their management. They have to congratulate you on the Btoady advancement of the society, as evidenced from the faot that when they took ofEco a twelve month ago there was a balance to credit m the Bank of New Zealand of £2 13s 2d, and to day a credit balance of £3 17s Id. The receipts this year amounted to £89 4s srt from all oourcea, and the expenditure, £85 7s 4d, The latter has been somewhat Heavier than usual during previous yearß owing to the holding of the spring show towards the close of last year when certificates of merit were purchased. Of these, however, there are a good number still on hand. The spring show was held as an experiment and was highly successful m every respect, and both it and our last annual one will compare most favourably with those held m any other district of a similar area to that of Geraldine ; all the exhibits having been exceptionally fine considering the very dry weather then experienced. There are several suggestions and recommendations made by members of the committee from time to time which will come before you m due course this evening for your consideration. During the past year monthly meetings of the members ware helri for the purpose of discuiiing matters that came within the ecope of the society, and most interesting papers have been read on horticultural and other subjects. Thote members who were present sp»nt many a pleasant hour m hearing and taking part at suoh meetines, and have, no doubt, profited by them. Your committee and the members generally have most heartily to thank Messrs J. Griffin, J. Pye, G. H. Patrick, T. Harrison, and J. W, Pye, for compiling these papers, who mußt have bestowed much time end care m giving thair experience ill and observation on the subjects, treated by them. Your committee are pleased to note that some of tbo members have, by entering their exhibits at the shows of other societies held m Temuka, and Peel Forest, not only challenged allcomers at shows, but have returned victorious, carrying back with them several valuable prizes. Your committee are al«ojgrafified to note that members of kindred societies m other towns, exhibited at our last annual show, and largely sharod m prizes m the gift of the sooiety. They feel sure that at all subsequent shows held under the autpicas of our joeiety, outside exhibitors will be moat heartily welcomed. In conclusion, jour committee, m retiring from ofiice, desire to thank the ladies who so generously helped to render the spring and annual shows a success ; also, to the judges, class stewards, and others interested m the welfare of the society." The balance-sheet showed the receipts from all sources, including balance from the previous year of £2 13s 2d, to have been £89 4s Sd, and the expenditure, £85 7s 4d, leaving a balance m hand of £3 17s Id carried forward for next year. The report and balance-sheet wera adopted, and the former ordered to be printed. The following officers were appointed for the ensuing year : — President, Dr Fish ; Vicepresedonts, Messrs A. White, J. Williams, and B. X- Macdonald ; Treasurer, Mr A. White. The election of secretary was left with the committee Committee — Messrs J. Xoary, J. W. Pye, J. Pizzey, J. Mellroy, W. Stonehouse, J. Pye and J. Williams (the latter to a"' ss chairman). Auditors, Hessra J. W. Pje, and B. R. Macdonald. Several suggestions made during the past year were referred to the newly elected com miltte to deal with. The usual voreß of thanks to the retiring committee and officers for thoir labours during | their tenure of office were passed by acclamation and the meeting ended. j
