GERALDINE ROAD BOARD.
The üßual monthly meeting of the members of the above board was held on Tuesday last, there being present — Messrs F. R. Flatman (chairman), K. Bropby, W. DeEenzy, J. Kelland, and A. Metcalf. The following tenders were accepted : - Contract No 223, formation and cuttings, Blackler's road near Wreathall's, Waitohi hills, T. Sugrue, £39. No 324. — Clearing scrub and formation, Jessop's road, Rhubarb bush, T. Kelliber, £9. No 325. — Filling and carting shingle, earthwork etc near Opuha station, J. Bugrue £133 10s. No 826. — Formation, Belfield road, Orari Flat, M. Lawlor, £4 15s. The following inward correspondence was considered : — From Mr J. Lewis, Geraldine road, stating that the reforming of the road from Mr Hawke's to the cross road near his property, by shifting the bank at his fence and placing it on the side of the road, would improve the drainage on tbe road. — Tho board considered that it would be unwise to break the surface of the road, as m case of a flood damage would result from the alteration. From Mr Burnett, resident engineer, intimating that he was having 10 old rails pointed, and would forward them for the use of the board. From Mr G. O'Neil, Orari, stating that he would not take any steps concerning the road at tbe Orari, until the present lessee of tbe racecourse ground had taken his crop therefrom. From Mr A. Dunford, one of the board's workmen, asking for an advance of Is per day m his wages, owing to his having to keep a horse to euable him to go to his work — The overseer stated that both Dunford and Dickens had to keep horses as they had large districts t-> look aftsr, and the horses were an absolute necessity. — It was resolved — " That the board caunot accede to the request to raise the rate of wages, but will allow 6d per day for horse feed to the two men who have to provide and keep horses to do the board's work." From Mr S. Breadley, Orari, offering a certain sum for the road now used by him at Orari. From Mr W. Greenaway, offering to tense the Board's reserves at Dobbie's creek. — It was resolved that the board cannot deal with the matter at present. Mr J. Boys, surveyor, returning the board's map plotted to date. From Mr 8. W. Morrison, requesting the transference of oertain sections to Mr Robert Hammond. — Transfer already effected. From Mr A. Rae, concerning the transfer of lot 28, 50 acres at Cowper's Flat, as well as reserves rented by him from the board, to Mr M. Daley. — Mr Daley's consent thereto to be got From Mr D. R. Ambler stating that he was about to fence section 35927, KaDgitata terrace, and asking the board to have the stones, put there when the road was formed, picked off tbe line of fence. — It was resolved that tha work be done. From Mr G. Gilbert, Gapes' Valley, requcstiog that the flax and manuka be cleared from off the road line along his section. — It was resolved that on account of the numerous demands made for the board to clear ecrub and flax from (he roads to allow persons to grub goT3e, the board cannot m future accede to any further demands of this nature. A lengthy report from the overseer having been read and fully discussed, it was decided that certain work at Waitohi Flat Bhould be done ; the work at Beautiful Valley to stand over ; drain pipes and four bushels of poisoned grain to bo obtained. Accounts amounting to £304 2i 7d were passed for payment and tbo board rose.
