INTERESTING TO PHOTOGRAPHERS.
The telescopic camera invented by Mr McKay of the Government Geological Department contains intermediate lenseß between the object glass of the camera and the photographic plate, so as to give the whole instrument a telescopic powor. The great objection to ordinary _ pßo fc *»g l 2£?«io U !" S'LionS ground is*" clear the distant portion is very faint, or if the middle dißtanoe is clear tho foreground and far distance are not so. By the new arrangoment the whole is bronght ioto one focus. Views of the same »cenery by the ordinary and new arrangements were shown side by 'side, and the difference was very striking. In the latter case ridges many milts away were brought out so clearly that the very trees and limbs on them were distinct, and even the stratification and formation of bare surfaces could be identified, while the foreground was perfeotly sharply defined. The only objection seems to be that the effect of distance is iomewhat sacrificed, the background Beemiog too olose, but of course this would only be noticed by persons aotually acquainted with the localities, and a Bimilar defect is also observable m paintingß by highly-skilled artists. Views taken by means oE cameras fitted with the new apparatus would bo sure to bo more highly appreciated by tho general public than those produced by ordinary cameras.
