Messrs 'William Collins and Co., auctioneers, wool and grain merchants, report (or the week a good enqairy for fowl wheat, short cats, and Derwont potatoes forlooal consumption. Owing to the strike, nothing can be shipped by the Union Company's steamers, consequently it 13 useless quoting f.o.b. parcels We aro given to understand that the company intend to see it through to tho bitter end, and the odds are m their favour that they will coma off victorious. Tho shareholders can easily do without a dividend, and it they do those depending on the company for their living will have to put up with a snort allowance, which is very inconvenient at times. At the regular weekly auction, the attendance of bnyers was np to the average, and all lines were eagerly bought up at tho following figures : — Fowl wheat la 9d to 2a 9d per bnshel, feed oats Is 4d do. m 10 to 30 sack lots, Derwent potatoes 45s to 60s per ton, according to sample, kidneya 253 to 403 per ton (a wide margin, but the quality was indifferent), live pigs 153 to 20a each, dead pork 2Jd per lb, onions 203 per cwt (good demand). A quantity of sundries were sold during the day nt fair prices. Several line 3 o! sheepskins were bought at 3s, 4s 9d, and 03 7d each for fine half-breds. Messrs Grocie, Maclean and Co. report for tho past fortnight, as follows : — HORSES. At the Timani Horsa Bazaar our entries have been small and, with a few exceptions, confined to aged and weedy sorts. Really good draughts suitable for farms and road work are m demand and meet a ready sale. To-day we sold on account of Mr Clissold, 4 oolts and fillies at from .£ls to £20 103, and on account of Mr W. St. Lindsay, his well-known hunter Sergeant for .£3O. We quote medium to good draughts at from £15 to £29, aged and inferior £& 10s to £W 103. Hacks — medinm £8 to JEI2, inferior £2 to £6. We have several enquirers for well-matched carriage pairs, and strong dogcart horses. SHEEP.. Owing to the remarkably fine weather which has prevailed of late, there have been but few lota of stores offering, and these m most instances not of the class m demand. Breeding ewes are muchlenquired for, and are likely to remain m favour for some time. Fat sheep command full values, and several lines of freezers have changed hands at rates highly satisfactory to the sellers. We have placed lines at 17s 6d to 19a, and fat ewes at 12s 6d to 15s. CATTLS. We have no transactions to report m store cattle, and at Washdyke yards only a, very small business hog been done m fat cattle, the quality coming forward being only second-rate. We have sold privately 32 head at equal to 21s per lOOlbs, cowa m milk and to calve at from £2 10s to £5 ss. BH3EPSKINS. Since our last report wb have sold privately and at auction 7171, viz., 3827 factory skins and 33i7 butchers' and country skins. The usual number of buyera have attended our sales, and notwithstanding accounts received lately of the London wool sales, prices have been well maintained. Best butchers' crossbreds sold at 5s Gd, as Sd, 03 lOd, Gs, to 6s 6d, medium 43 lOd to 53 3d, merinos 43 3d to 5s 3d, light orossbreds23 6d to 4s. HIDES. We have thia week disposed of all consignments to hand at— for medium weights ljd per lb., light Id to lid. TALLOW. We have sold over 3 tons of rough fat at from 10s 6d to 11s per cwt.
