THE LATE MRS WATTS' BURIAL.

TO THB EDITOB OiV TJJB TIMARU HERALD. Sib, —Just a word or two m reply to your correspondent " Humanity. " Surely ho oould not havo onquirod whethor tho members of the Garrison Band wore awaro of tho doath of their late bandman's wife. Ho is aUo probably not acquainted wjth tho faat that upon tbe death of Bandsman Waits, the members of the Band made all arrangements Inaoppeotion with his burial, and raised a considerable sura by subscription which tbey handed to his widow. By their actions tho bandsmen have proved themselves to be truo friends of both deceased. The majority of the publio and particularly those who subscribed to tha fund Are /ally aware of this. Tho bandsmen, I learn,

were not acquainted with the death of Mrs Watts previous to her burial, and had thoy been, I feel sure would have interested themselves with their usual brotherly kindness, and ! Mrs Watts would have been accorded a decont ' funeral and laid by the sido of her lato ' husband. If ' Humanity " had merely token . the trouble to inform the bandsmen of Mrs Watts' doath, which lie probably was aware of, ho would have boen spared his attempt to bring our bandsmon into disgrace with the * publio. I consider the Band's actions since tho doath of Bandsman Watts worthy of emulation. Oh! could I say tho Bame of " Humanity." I am etc. A SrrnscninEß to the Fund.
