But what is this wo read m the morning papers about certain Tory similar atrooities which took place m the hot light of an Indian day p The Maharajah of Jeypore waß the hoßt, and this tho entortainmont he provided for his guests: — Tho two elephant?, on entering tho opon epaco, chasod uway, it is said, tho thirty or forty spearmen who incited them to the combat, and thereupon they charged enoh other. After fighting with equal success for somo time, they were teparatcd with charges of gunfowdoi'-smoke directed towards them. Tho royal party then went to another open court, whero the fights were carried on m succession between pairs of quail, partridges, oocks, black bucks, hogs, deer, ramß, aambhur, boara, and buffaloes. " The animals," says a witness of tho scene, " wore all m excellent condition and fought with great fury, especially tho rams, sauibhur and boars " Tho " guest " of tho occasion was Prince Albort Victor, and ho wus supported by " nil the European residents and tourists m Joyporo." Not one of them had tho courago to le.ivo the diegraccful orgio. Does the Empress of India sanction these things ?
