Tbo aculling raco between Peter Kemp and Neil Matteraon for £200 a side and the championship of Ihe world was rowed on the championship course oq the Paramatta river this afternoon. Tliero was a largo attendance of the public at tho vantage points along the river banks und the steamers which followed the race wero well patronised. Both men wero m excellent form and there was a splendid start. Kemp dashed away pulling 43 stroke 3to Matterson's 41, and m the firat few strokes had forged slightly ahead. ilatterson was rowing splendidly but could make no headway against Kemp'a steady swinging stroke. At the mile post Kemp had a lead of two length 3 and from this out the raco may bo said to have been virtually over as Kemp never allowed Mattersou, who appeared to be thoroughly exhausted, to get near him and he rowec) m the easiest of winners by quite 250 yards. Time— 2lmin. Uisec. The betting was m favour of Kemp.
