Before llio Sweating Commission a subcontractor asked for protection as it frequently happened that after doing their work tlioro was not sufficient monay coming to the contractor to enable him to pay sub contractors. He should bo brought withiu tho scope of the V7ork men's Waged Act, co that subcontractor* should bo p.iid weekly, and the witness accepted a request to consult his fellow sub contractors und endeavour tomato a proposal to others. April 22. At llio Sweating Commission Conslablo O'Borke, Jn?poclor under tho Employment of Fonittlcs and Otbcrß Act, stated that tho factories iv Wellington wcro as a rula clean aid well ventilated. On Saturdays there was iv tendency to keep Llio girls at work beyond tho hours filed by tho Act. During his threo years of offico ho had laid olovon informations, securing nino convictions. Sir Murlou, secretary of the Bob Company, attended, and contradicted the evidoneo of the ex-Aroom ycotcrdny that tho employees worked long hours.
