MAD FREAK BY THREE SAILORS.
SEEIOUS EXPLOSION AT LYTTELTON GASWORKS. (Xv Tew.qbaph.) I/YITfiLTON, Apßlt2o. (Three seamen belonging to the barque Ivanhoe were on the hill over Lytteltan this afternoon, and by boiub means set a largo stono rolling. It. canio through tho garden of Mr Naldor, solicitor, who resides on tho Sumuer road, whero, however, no damage waß done. Ooutinuing its course over tho road tho stone struck tho gasometer, ia which was stored 12,500 feet of gi)3 to light the town for tho night, with such force that it burst the gasometer. Tho gas rushed out and was immediately lighted by tho blaze from the furnace, so that an oxplosion followed, tho flameß rising ovor 100 feet m tho air. Fortunately no one was hurt, aa tho man on duty was outßido tha works at tho time. The sailora who sent the stone down, hays been arrested.
