In -the evidence, beforo tho Western Australian Committee to-day Sir T> Cockbnrn Campbell stated that tho eastern colonies attached mora importance to Western Australian sentiments than to the opinions of England. He considered that the English action ogninst tho Imperial reservation of Albany for defencepurposes {[sic] a standing menace, to the colonies. United Australia, ho si\d, vraa able to repulse French or German annexation of Western Australia. Tdeso opinions somewhat surprised the committee. (Speciai to Press Association.) (Received G.OO p.m., April 20th.l The Bouao of Commons, by a majority of 95, rejected the Bimetalism Bill. Meiers W. H. Smith, leader of the Hou3e, Sir Goschen.Chancellor of the. Exchequer, and Sir Vernon Harcourt, on behalf of Blr Gladstone, opposed the measure. Mr Bilfuur supported the Bill, and Sir H. j James and Sir R. B. Wobater voted m favour of it.
