A N ADVEBTIBEMENT having recently il. appeared in the Qeraldine Ovardian, 1 nnder the signature of an agent of the Australian Mutual Pr»vident Society, tending to throw Discredit on the Bonuses granted by the Government Life Insurance Department, it is desirable to lay the following facts regarding a Claim Recently Paid by this Office in the Canterbury District before the Policyholders of the Department in order to Prevent Misunderstanding. The Policy in question wss taken out under the oldest rates of the Department, rates of premium which it was expressly stated at the time were not calculated to yield any profit whatever. The Policy was therefore almost parallel to a Non-profit Policy in the A.M.P. Society. Tho Premium for £1000 was only 12s 6d per annum more than the Non-profit rate in the Utter offico (or £10 in all during the 16 years it had been in force), yet the startling result hag been that whereas in the Mutual Provident Society NO BONUS whatever woujd have been given, the amount Paid over and aboye (ha « um contracted foi with this Department was ONE HDNDREE AND TWENTY-FIVE POUNDS.
