GERALDINE ROAD BOARD ELECTION.
♦ The election of five membereto serve on the " Geraldine Boad Board, In the stead of the old members who retire through effluiion of time, took place on Monday last, the principal polling booth being at tJeraidine, with booths also at Hilton and Woodbury. The election did not excite much interest amongst the ratepayers, but there was a large crowd outside the .Road Board Office at 7 p.m., -when Mr W. fihiera, returning officer, declared the results of the voting to be as follows ; — ..■■■ : "■ j * .£*■..■? : J 1 1 4 a5 p & Kelland, John .7, I*s 29 32 206 Flatman, Frederick it. 124 13 33 170 Grant; Lewis 104 13 S0 147 Slack, William U. ... 95 9 8 112 ■ : Deßenzy, WUliam ... 10 20 ' 6 96 McShane, Peter ... 72 1 22 95 Skinner, feobert ... 53* 6 17 76 Corbett, Thomas W.... 31 4 6 41 Binekin, J. O. ... 32 3 0 35 Allan, J 12 5 4 21 As Messrs Slack and Dettenzy had obtained equal votes for the fifth seat on the board, the returning officer gave his casting vote m favour of Mr Deßenzie, and declared the first five candidates duly elected. Messrs Kelland, Flatman, and Grant then came forward amidst much cheering and addressed those present, thanking them for the honour the ratepayers had done them. Mr Flat man returned thanks on behalf of Mr Slack, aud Mr Kelland for Mr Deßenzy, and ' ' Mr Corbett on behalf of himself and the other defeated candidate. The proceedings then terminated.
