SOUTH CANTERBURY HARRIERS.
THK MEET AT THE KENNEL 3. Last Saturday afternoon, tho day fixed for the opening meet, saw a. goodly number of eports wending their way towards the kennels, and I wish I could chronicle a good day's hunting, but the fates wero against us. It was as bad a scenting day as one could imagine— a fine sunshiny day, ground very hard, ami the air dry. A start was made m a paddock behind Hadlow, where a bore was soon found, and after a short run the hounds ran into her. Two more unsatisfactory runs followed, but the scent being too bad, the Hounds wero ordered home. The master, Mr E. Timaru Bhodes, wis up on The Plug, Fowler, the huntsman, on Selina (a finelooking black), and Purdham. the whip, on a grey mare. Fowler had Hi couples out, and handled them very well, having them nicely under control. I looked through the konnols on my return homo, and saw the hounds fed. Fowler has both hounds and pups m splendid condition, and the kennels » model of cleanliness. On Tuesday afternoon, the 7th, nt Saltwater Creek, I hope Mr Rhodes will hava a hotter day and a good run. Nbb.
