AT a SPECIAL MEETING of tho Geraldine County Council held on WEDNESDAY, APRIL 17th, 1889, at 11 o'clock p.m. The following Special Order was made : That this Conncil do nnw strike a Special Rate m accordance with the Provisions of " The Local Bodies Loans Act 18^6 " of (l-16th) one-sixteenth of a Penny m the (£) Pound, on all the rateable property m the Woodbury Water Supply District, for tho purpose of providing the interest upon a loan of £50 raised by thn Geraldine County Council under the provisions of the " Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 188G, and Amendment Act 1887." Tho said Rato to be an annual recurring Rato for each year commencing from tho First of January and ending tho 31st December, and to be payable annually m ono sum on the Ist day of May m each year (for a period of Twenty-six Years, until the said Loan bo paid off), lbo (irst payaent to be made on tho First Duy of Juno," 1889. TAKE NOTICE that m pursuanco of tho powers vested m it by " The Counties Act, 1886," the County Council of the County of Geraldino at a special meeting held on the 17th day of April, 18S9, passed a resolution lo the effect that the By-Law No. 3, called the Water Races By-Law made by the said Courjcil, under tho said Act on tho 18th day of July, 1887, and which camo into force m tho County of Geraldine on the 15th day of August, 1887, bo repealed ; and further (ako notice that at tho aforesaid special meeting the said Council passed a further resolution to tho effect that, By liws applicable to tho whole of the system of water works under tho control of tho Council, and to tho whole County of Geraldine should bo made, and that the said By-Laws should como into operation on the 29th day of May, 1889. The following aro the objects and purport of the said By-Laws : — 1. Providing for the proper repair of and the keoping of water races froe from obstructions, and for tbo construction and maintenance of field croßsings, fences and hedges, by tho occupiorß of land through which a race or water channel shall ptss. 2. Providing for an annual charge (to be fixed by resolution of tho Council) to bo puid to tho Council by occupiers of land abutting upon or adjacent to any aqueduct, race or water channel, tho water from which they shall have obtained liberty to uso, and ob to tho application thoreof. 3. Preventing the obstruction of water races either by placing or allowing obstructions to remain therein, or allowing bushes or plants to grow so as to obstruct the samo. 4. Preventing injuries to wator races or anything appertaining thereto. 5. Provonting tho driving of vehicles or tho conveyance of any matorial or machinery across water races except at tho appointed crossings. 6. Preventing tho pollution of wator m tho races. 7. Punishing Persons for interfering with dams, reservoirs, hcadworks, buildings or any other thing appertaining to or used m connection with water races oxcopt by permission of tho Council. 8. Provonting bathing m reservoirs or othor parlß of water racoß. 0. Providing for tho protection of Rangers and others m tho Council's employ m connection with water races. 10. Preventing trcspasi on, or nuisanoos m m wator races. 11. Prescribing lorina and conditions upon which applications will ho considered from Porßons desirous of having a sorvico or branch race for tho uso of their lands. 12. Providing for tho construction of raceß, and as to thn oxpenscs thereof. And tako Notice that the said Council proposos to confirm both tho abovo resolutions at a. mooting of the Council to bo held on tho 29th day of MAY noxt, at tho Office of the Council, and that a copy oi tho said proposod By-Laws is deposited at tho Council's Office m Timaru, and will bo open for inspection by tho public during office hours until the said 29th Day of MAY next.
