NEW ZEALANDEBB IN MELBOURNE.

Mr A. G. Howland, the well known coachbuilder of Ohriatchurch, on his return from Melbourne latf-, week met the general com mittee of the Otngo Protection League at 3)unedin one evening, and gave them his impressions of Melbourne. In the course of hia remarks he said : -Melbourne now seemed on the flood-tide of prosperity, and m every direction the factoriea were busy. Aa might be expected, he visited coach factories principally, and m those he went to about 5C m number, every one seemed to be vei'j hn.-y- Carriages were of the nature of a luxury, and high prosperity is denoted when plenty of carriages are being built. The prices obtained for the different vehicles were similar to those ruling here, and wages were about the same. New Zealand tradesmen received very good characters aa workmei, and some had got into very good positions indeed. The experience ol all wa» not, however, co bright, ant! miny now well employed would prefer to work m New Zealand. Clerks and shopmen could with great difficulty get employment, am those occupations Victorian credentials were necessary, and New Zealand one 3 almost useless. From a business point of view he preferred to wait for our improving times, rather tban trust to making a fresh start m Victoria at present. He had returned determined to stay m New Zealand while he could get a living, and would strongly advise every one to stop here that can do so. All who go away hold fresh recollections of our green pasture landa, and will return gladly should opportunities of employment increase.
