THE NEWCASTLE COAL STRIKE.

At the annual meeting of the Scottish i and Australian Mining Company the ' chairman stated that tho trade of the ! . Lambton mine at Newcastle, New South ; Wales, had increased so much in the second half year as to justify a dividend ' of 15 per cent. No dispute had occurred between tho men and the company, bu' the former had struck at the bidding of j the union. The object of the union was ' to exhr.ust the orders. Tho company hoped that they would not havo to import men, but unless work was resumed immediately in the Newcastle mines, it would 5 have to be done, for the owners were ' T determined not to allow the union to gain tho upper hand and practically be- ' come the masters.
