We regret to learn that a little boy, Arthur Hamilton, son of Mr Andrew Hamilton, if Makikihi, died m Timaru Hospital of icute bronchitis on 'JLuesdny night. Great iympathy ie felt for his parents, who are old md respected settlers m the Makikihi district. The glove contest between J. Maloney of Timuru and J. Pettengell of Dunedin, tojk placo luat evening at the Crystal Palace rink. There was a very large attendance of the public and the fight provod very exciting. Aftor nino good rounds had been fierculy fought, the conteat was awarded to Maloney on a foul early m the tenth round. The amateur dramatic performance given bo eu.ee jofully on Tuesday, was repeat od last evening, and went oven more smoothly The house was crammed fu'l above and below, and tha audience showed unmiatakcably that they thoroughly enjoyed the performance. Among the results of the two evenings' performances should be tho nottinp of a good round sum for the Hunt Clubs, and the attainment by the public tlint Timaru is not dependent for really excellent dramatio entertainments upon travelling companies, who have, if they prove attractive, the drawback of leaving the place the poorer for their visit.. In another column will be found the weights and acceptances for to-day's racing. As there are a great many people m town and the usual half-holiday falls to day, there should be a very largo attendance of tlie public. The fitlds promiso to be very large, and eport good all round. In the hurdlen Presto should about win ; Jack should take the Gladstone handicap, Corinna being his most dangerous opponent. Eimberley or Quibble shoul.l fight out tho Squatters stakes and Kitty is about the beet m for the trot. The Ladies' l'urse should go to Plunger, and the Bracelet is reserved for Kate, as this appears to be the only race she can win it our meetings. The train arrangements are satisfactory, the second special being very handy for all half holiday-keepers. The half annual meeting nf the 5.0.A.A.0. was held at the Ship Hotel yesterday morning, at which there was a good attendance of members. The balance sheet was presented by Mr Clulee, secretary and treasurer, and Bhowed receipts £ 52 7s BJ, and expenditure £250 193 6d, leaving £l 8s 3d m hand. Eight new members were admitted into the club, viz. : —Messrs S. Jligijinbolham, O. Moller, J. W. Balfour, 0. Smith, W. Hugho-, K. ITaigh, Arthur Haigh and Alfred Haigh. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows :— President, Mr R. Rutherford; vice-Presidont, Mr R. H. Rhodes ; general committee, Messrs H. Ford, G. J. Denmstoun, T. Teschemakcr, A. W. Wright, E. T. Rhodes, 8. A. Bristol, G. L. Meison, and M J. Knubley ; secretary and treasurer, Mr G. F. ( lulee (re-elected). A letter was received from the Timaru Cycling Club, making proposals for the use of the grounds for race meetings and training. A subcommittee was appointed to confer with the Cycling Club, with power to make arrangements. A voto of thanks to the chairman closed the proceedings.
