Timaru Herald Office, Saturday evening. AUCTIONEER'S REPORT. Mr E. B. Guinness (for the Now Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agenoy Company, Limited), reports for the week ended Saturday, May sth, 188-3, as follows :— ■WASHDTKB YAKDS. Fat Cnttle-^Entrie3 hp.ve been small, tho demand remains Tory limited, and sales difficult to effect ; prices show no improvement on late quotations. Stores— Very few 'yarded, which command little or no attention. Fat Sheep — There was a largo supply penned including cno or two prims lota, but the bulk consisted of fat ewe 3. Two pens of nico quality merino wethers wero keenly competed for. For the Newlauds Estate we sold 122 orossbreds at 8s 2d, and 77 merino wethers at Gs 8d The demand being good nearly every line changed hands. The moat prominent feature of last Thursday's salo was Mr Balfonr's entry of 1942 4-tootk crossbred ewes and wethers, which were large-framed splendid sheep, m very forward condition. A great many bnyer3 wero present who had been waiting for these sheep, knowing- it was his intention to submit them to public auction. Tho result was that every lot elicited spirited biddings, and the following satisfactory price 3 were obtained, viz., 321 1-tooth, wethers 8s lOd, 162 do do ßs 7d, 308 do do Ss Gd, 91 do do 83 7d, 50 do do culls 63 lid, 098 4-tooth ewes 7s Id. The purchasers wero Mes3r3 Thomas Mitchell, T. D. Robertson, W. Stoddart, A. ll. Clark, and A. Humphreys. PRIVATE SALES OF SHEEP. Since laat report we havo transacted a. conBiderable amount privately. In conjunction with our Oamaru branch wo have sold 3000 4-tooth half-bred wethers, and 1000 4 and O-tooth half-bred ewes at satiafactory prices, also 1000 crossbred lambs at current rates. WOOD A.YD SHEEPSKINS. There waa a large attendaneo at Wednesday's sale, and some good line 3 of both country and batchers' skins wero brought forward. Prices. were rather irregular, but tho average showed an improvement. We catalogued 13 bales and 9 bass wool, and 1342 skin 3, disposing of every lot as follows : — Best butchers' 2s Gd, 23 9d, 33/ to 33 3d, second quality 2s. 23 3d, to 23 sd, merinos Is 6d to I 3 lid, country skins (pelts) 4d to Bd, lambskins Is 3d to 2s 3H, ■wool (mixed) 4id to s|d, pieces 3}d, lamb 3' trimmings 3sd to 3sd per lb. HIDES ara m good demand. Prices remum unaltered ; we disposed of 50 to CO at quotations. I
