EXTRAORDINARY TAXATION PROPOSALS IN TASMANIA.

The taxation resolutions brought forward by the Tasmanian Ministry are as follows:—A tax of hd m the £ on the capital value of all' lands and buildings, exclusive of improvements; a tax of 3d m the £ on all salaries exceeding £100 ; a tax of 3d m the £ on all persons engaged m agricultural and pastoral pursuits; a tax of 3d m the £ on the annual value of land occupied for business purposes over £50; a tax of £25 on every Commercial traveller or agent of any firm outside Tasmania, and on all persons carrying on trade or business, except agricultural, pastoral, and horticultural pursuits m any boilding m Tasmania, of the annual capital value of £300 or more, of £20 if the building is under £300 and over £200, and of £15 if the value is over £150 ; a like tax is charged on all medical practitioners qualified for five years, all barristers, solicitors, attornies and droctors of five years standing, the tax to be £10 if tho buildings are valued at £100, a like tax on professional men of less than five yeaJs' standing, and commission agents, brokers,and accountants carrying on busU : ness m buildings assessed at lesi than £150 a year, of £7 10s if the building is j under £100, of £5 if the building iB valued at less than £50 and under £74, and of £2 10s if the building is valued at under £50 and not less than £30; a tax on all persona not liable to pay any other duties occupying bouses assessed at an annual value exceeding $15 of Odin the S,; a tax on absentees' land and buildings, exclusive of improvements, of aid m them £m addition to the other taxes ; a tax on pensions paid to persons not m the colony of 3d m the £ ; duties on all the real and personal properties of deceased persons ranging from 2 to 4 per cent, ao •ordicg to value ; a tax of £10, payable by the master of a vessel for each Chinese.
