CARRIERS REUNION.
« Last evening a most enjoyable gathering of carriers and expressmen (with a '. few gentlemen who attendedby invitation) i was held at the Shamrock Hotel, where i Host Mahoney provided a splendid < dinner which was prepared and served in 1 the moat complete and prompt manner. ] The Chair was occupied by Mr W. company singing the National Anthem. Song, Mr Townsend :— " The Rhine wine." The Vice-Chairman proposed " Commorce," coupled with the name of Mr B. Hibbard. This toast was heartily drunk | and Mr Hibbard, on rising to respond, was greeted with applause. Ho briefly thanked them for the cordiality with which they had received the mentioa of his name, and added that ho had a strong and deep interest in the commercial prosperity of the place. Song, " The sea is England's Glory." Chorus, " Rule Britannia." Mr Tuttou proposed "The Curriers." Mr J. Dick briefly responded for tho carriers and expressmen. Song, tho Chairman, " The hut of an Irishman." Mr R. Simpson proposed the "Friendly Socioties," and to this Bro. Dick (A.0.F.) responded, remarking that although this was not an occasion for long speaking, he could not help pointing out that every young person owed it to himself to join a benefit society, while those more advanced in life owed it also to others to mstko provision for the future, (applause.) Song — Mr Davidson, junr. — Irish comic song. The "Host and Hostess" and the "Press" were the remaining toasts, and after somo further music and conviviality the company separated a little after elevon.
