BODY FOUND IN THE HARBOUR.
Yesterday morning about half past ten o'clock twoapprenticea on board the barque Mennock noticed the portion of a human body floating under the end of the main wharf close to the waterman's steps. They brought it ashore and informed the police. Sergeant Livingstone had it removed to the Royal Hotel where it awaits an inquest. There seems no possibility of identifying the remains with any certainty, butavery general impression speedily got about that they were those of the unfortunate and lamented young man Birrell who, it will be remembered, lost his life by the capsizing of a yacht off the end of the breakwater on New Year's Day. The police made very diligent en- . quiry, but have so far failed to get any/ ' one to identify the remains. An inques/ is to be held at the Royal Hotel at 16^ , o'clock this morning.
