Timaru Herald, Saturday Evening. AUCTIONEER'S REPORT. Messrs Gracie, Maclean and Adam report for tho past fortnight as follows : — nOI(SE3. Our sales at the Timaru Horse Bazaar on tho 11th inst., were more satisfactory than those of several weeks past and prices obtained for good young draughts were an improvement on former rate3. At auction to-day business was rather quiet, but wo placed several good draughts privately, and quoto medium to good at from £15 10s to £26, inferior £6 to £10. Hacks and light harness horse3 are very slow of sale. CATTLE. At Pleasant Point on the 6th inst., thero was a large entry composed principally of modinm stores for which the demand was only limited. We sold 32 head at — for calves 10s, yearlings 193 to 22s ; well forward steers at £1 12s 6d. At Washdyke yards on Thursday only n. few head were- yarded owing to tho weather being wet and stormy. We sold privately 15 head well-conditioned stores and 21 head fat steer3 and heifers at eq\ial to 18s por lOOlbs for beef. SHEEP. At Pleasant Point on tho 6th there wa9 a fair entry and most of tho lots changed hands. We sold 77 ewes at 7s 6d, 36 wethers at 9s, 110 ewes at 4s 3d, 200 ewes at ss. At Wnshdyko on Thursday there was n much larger supply of fat sheep than usual. Tho demand wa3 brisk and we cleared our entry as under. There was also a good amount of business done in store sheep. Our sales wore :— 175 fut ewes at Gs lid, 60 a' Bs, 21 at 7s, 75 at 6s 6d, 129 lambs at 4s 9d, and privately 205 fut owe3. Wo also sold since our last report 5500 boiloi'3, 400 freezers, and 1300 fat 2-toothg. SHEEPSKINS. At our regular sale on Wednesday wo catalogued over 200') skins. Thore were tho usual representatives of the trade present, but owing to tho wet weathor prieps were not quite so good this week. Best butchers' skina realised up to 3s 9d, freezers 4s Id, and fullwoolled country skins up to 5s 6d. COUNTRY SALE. On Wednesday last we held a sale at St. Andrews of live stock, implements, &c. Best draught horses realised up to £35, hacks .up £16 10s, 375 fat sheep at 8s lOd to 9s Bd. At Mnkikihi on Monday last we held a, clearing sale on account of Mr James Poff. There wa3 a largo attendance of buyers and prices obtained wore good. Mr E. R. Guinnoss (for the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited), 'reporto for the week ended Saturday, 18th June, I*B7, as follows :— Wo havo to record a very wet sale day at the Washdyko Yards on Thursday last, heavy rain falling during tho greater part of the auction, and imparting to the Btock o, very miserable appearance. Of course the half fat and storo sheep bVio wed to tho worse possible advantage, vnlnos being reduced 6d te Is per head. Tho attendance was affected very much by the rough weathe: 1 , but despite these drawbacks fat sheep at the commencement of tho salo brought extremely good prices, viz., 83 to 8s 2d for ewes, thero being no wethers in tho market. CATTLE. Of fat, only a few were yarded, at Washdyke and these met with a poor sale. Thero being a plentiful supply throughout tho district, we cannot quoto any alterations in values. Stores — We havo no transactions worthy of report. snsEP. At tho Washdyko yards, considering the weather, a fair number were yarded, tho fat pens being all full. Ewes brought from 6s to 8s 2d. Stores. — Although several lines of very good graziers' were brought forward thero were no buyers for that class of stock, and they had to return unsold. Crossbred lambs sold at 4s 3d to 43 9d— wo disposed of 507 at tho former figure. DISTUICT SAI/E3. At Makikihi monthly salo on Monday last there wore modorate numbers of sheop and cattle yarded. We sold a small line of fat sheep at 8s 2d and etoro steers at £3 per head. Other transactions. — Fat crossbred owes 4s 4d to 4s 7d, lambs 3s Cd, 2-tooth half breds 5s 6(1. At Winchester Fair on the 14th inst., tho entry of sheep and cattle was about an average one. Tho altendanco wns very smnll and little or no business resulted ; a few fat sheep sold at 8a 9d and several small lines of store cattle changed hands at prices in favor of the buycra. PBIVATE SALK3 OP SIIEEI'. Sinco our lust report we have sold tho following lines : — 720 prime freezers, 535 2-tooth half.brcd wethers, 160 2-tooth crossbred ewes, 109 6-tooth three-quarter-bred ewes ; all at rerv »:iti«factory prices, and have sovorul other l'-.tn of fat sheep and stores under offer which wiJl be sold during tho next fow days. SHEEPSKINS. On Wednesday last wo held our usual fortnightly sale, but owing to tho inclemency of tho weather only a small quantity came forward, tho Bkins in most instances being wet and dirty. This with tho fact that fellmongers havo been unable to dry wool for some time, caused a slight drop in values, several lot-< being held over. Best butchers' crossbred,) brought 3s 4d, 3s 6d, 3s 9d, to 4s j second quality 2a Gd, 2s 9d to 3s ; lambs 2e 6d to 3s ; uionnos (light) 2s U> 2e 3d ;
country skins from Is 6d to 4s, according to size and quality. HIDES. We have disposed of a large number at the following quotations :— -601b and over, 4d ; SOlbs to 601bs, 3Jd ; light and faulty, 2id to 3d ; cut and Blippy, 2d per lb. Mr Moss Jonas reports for the week ended Saturday, 19th June, as follows : — Pleasant Point Yards. — At the regular monthly sale held at these yards on Monday, the 6th inst, there was a fair muster of stock of all classes. The sale was well attended, tho demand good, and the prices realized were considerably in advance of late sales, and will compare favorably with the Metropolitan markets. I sold 242 crossbred 2tooths at 7s 8d ; 73 crossbred ewes at 6s 8d ; 81 fat owes at 7s 7d ; 105 crossbred 2-tooths at 8s 6d ; 75 crossbred ewes at 6s 6d j 140 hnlf-bred ewes in lamb at 5b ; 107 half-bred wethers at ss ; 98 crossbred ewes and wethers at 6s 6d ;96 crossbred ewes at 5s Gd ; 75 lambs at 5s 2d ; 95 crossbred ewes at 4s ; 5 fat bnllocl s at £7 108 ; 3 steers and heifers at £6 12s Sd ; 4 steers at £5 5s ; 7 cows in milk or near calving from £3 15s to £5 15s ; 11 head store cattle from £1 12s 6d to £2 15s ■WASHDT.KE SALEYAIIDS. The usual sale was hold on Thursday, the 16th inst., and considering the very wet wenther there was a fair entry of sheep. I sold 91 fat ewes at 8s sd, 30 fat do at Bs, 46 fat sheep at fis 2d. The entry of cattle was unusually small. I sold 3 fat steer3 at £7 7s 6d, 3 do do at £5. ■WINCHESTER FAIR. The regular monthly s ile was held on the 14th inst. The entry comprised about 1000 sheep and 60 head cattle. The sale was well attended, but there was not much business done. I sold 3a' eers at £2 2s fid, 2 yearlings at 30s, and 4 cows at from £2 15s to £4. SHEEPSKINS. The regular sale was held on Wednesday (•he 15th inst. My catalogue comprised 2 1 58, all of which I sold as follow3 : — Factory skins 3s Gd, 3s Od, 3s lOd to 4s; boilers, 2s 2d, 2s 4d 23 3d to 2s 7d ; butchers' crosabreds, 3s, 3s 3d, 33 6d, 3s 9d to 4a ; country skins, Is 6d, Is 9d, Is lid, 2s, 23 3d, 23 Od, 2s 9d, 3s to 3s Bd. I al*o sold 5 ton3 rough and rendered fat at from £5 to £8 10s per ton. COUNTKY SAIB. I held a clearing sale of farm stock for Mr W. F. Christio at his farm Seadown, on the 15lh inst. Tho day was exceedingly wet, but there was a largo attendance and the stock realised pricos up to expectation. A bay draught maro brought £28. 20 young etoro cattle 33s per head, milch cows up to £5 and tho implements at good market value. Following are the details filed with tho assignee in J. G. Macpherson's estate: — Liabilities — A. Hayes, £3185 (for which ho hoUU security only over the Mabel property value £1070) ; Filmer and another, £1270 : limaru Building Society, £330, secured by firßt mortgage over house and section, High street; Sinclair and Gunn, £110 each, secured by second mortgage over houso and section ; McCallum and Co., £107 13s 3d ; Dunedin I. and W. Co., £74 12s 4d ; total, £5187 5s 7d. Assets— Sawmill, Stewart's Island, £1000; Mabel property and machinery, £1070 ; schooner Spray, £300 ; yards at Timaru, £150; book debts, estimated value, £100; furniture, £50 ; house and section High street, £600 ; total, £3470.
