IRISH AFFAIRS.
AN EXTRAORDINARY LETTER. (Per 5.3. Te Anau at the Bluff.) [" Telegraph " Special.] I London, Feb. 18. I Archbishop Croke, of Oashol, has i written a letter In which he advises Irishmen to no longer pay any taxes to the English Government. He argues that Irishmen will bo justified m refusing to any longer contribute taxes which are applied to the feeing and feeding of a gang of needy and voracious lawyers ; to the purchase of bludgeons for policemen, to be used m the smashing of the Irish peoplo's own skulls ; and for the support of a foreign (English) garrison. The publication of tho letter has created an onormous agitation throughout the United Kingdom. If the advice of the Archbishop is adopted there is every appearance that tho people of England will unanimously support the establishment of martial law m Ireland. Mr Parnell deprecates the advice of Archbishop Croke, knowing that if it is followed it will lead to civil war.
