OBITUARY.
Tho following notice relating to Mrs Henry Wood, whose death is recorded amongst our cablegrams this morning, is from " Men of tho Time." Wood, Mrs Henry, novelist, eldest daughter of tho Into Mr Thos. Price, head of one of the leading glove-manu-facturing firms m Worcester, born m Worcestershire about 1820, inherited a literary taste from her father, and at an early age was married to Mr Henry Wood, a gentleman connected with the shipping trade. She commenced her li'erary career as a contributor to T/ic New Monthly Magazine and Bentley's Miscellany, and " Danebury House," her first complete work (which gained tho prize of £100 offered by the Scottish Temperance Leaguo for the host illustration of the good effects of temperance), was published m 1860. It was followed by " East Lynne," which achieved a remarkable success, m 1861; "The Channings," "Mrs Halliburton's Troubles," nnd "A Foggy Night at Offord " (a small book issued for the benefit of the Lancashire operatives), 18C2 ; " William Allair ; or, Running away to Sea," a book for boys ; " The Shadow of Ashlydyat," and " Verner's Pride," 1863 ; " Lord Oakburn's Daughters," " Oswald Cray," and "Trevlyn Hold ; or, Squire Truvlyn's Heir," 1864; "Mildred Arkell," 1865; "Elster's Folly," and " St. Martin's Eve," m 18G6; " A Life's Secret," 1867 ; "Roland Yorke," 1869 ; " George Canterbury's Will," and " Bessy Rane," 1870 ; "Deuo Hollow," 1871; "Within the M«ze," 1872 ; " Master of Greylands," 1873; "Edina," 1876; "Pomeroy Abbey," m 1878; " Johnny Ludlow," 1830; " Count Netherleigh," 1881 ; and " About Ourselves," 1883. Airs Wood was editor of the Argosy, a sixpenny monthly magazine.
