THE MANAWATU RAILWAY.
(By Telegraph.) Wellington, Oct. 22. The list rails ort tlio Manawatu railway will be laid this evening, although several days more will be occupied m ballasting. Direct railway communication with New Plymouth will then bo established. Tho ceremony of driving the laat Bpike will be performed with special festivities. For goods jnd stock tho railway will be opened
throughout next week, and pii'srnuevs wil! be run on the Princo of Walea Birthday Arrangemonts are being made so that p;issengers will be enabled to reach Napiei thirteen hours after leaving Wellington.
