The Merchant Shipping and Underwriters' Association, under date London, October 19th, report the arriral of the ship Halcione from Kaipara (leffc July 12th). IMPERIAL INSTITUTE. Oct. 20. A meeting of the colonial AgentsGeneral and the members of the City Corporation was held at the Mansion House to-day m connection with the proposed Imperial Institute. The Lord Mayor, who was present, announced that it would be suggested that the institute
be erected upon a site and conducted on the lines of the present Colonial and Indian Exhibition. This was unanimously approved by tbe meeting, and it was decided that tbe Lord Mayor should convene a meeting to give effect to these. OBITUARY. Rangoon, Oct. 20. ARGENTINE REPUBLIC. London. Oct. 20. M. Rodolfo Fink has been appointed Consul at Melbourne for the Argentine Republic. TRENCH FINANCE MINISTER. M. Marie-Francois-Sadi Carnot, Frencb Minister of Finance, who bad sent m bis resignation of that portfolio, has reconsidered his decision, and will retain office. It is probable that tbe decorative fixtures, and the best of the trophies among the Government collection jn tbe Victorian Court at tbe Indian and Colonial Exhibition will be reserved for the Adelaide Jubilee Exhibition. ANOTHER SHIPPING COMPANY. The Australian Mutual Shipping Company has been registered, with a capital of LIOO.OOO, a third of which has been reserved for the colonies. It is intended to charge similar rates for freight, etc., as the shipping ring. NEW SOUTH WALES TOBACCO. Experts report that the New South Wales tobacco was strong and rank. AT A PREMIUM. Tbe shares of tbe Day Dawn Goldmining Company, of Queensland, are at a premium of LI ; the Bonnie Dundee of 9s 6d ; the Etheridge of 30s ; and the Cumberland of 17s 6d.
