The weekly returns of the Bank of England published to-day, show tbe proportion of reserve to liabilities to be 37 per cent, 4 per cent higher than that of last week. The total reserve m notes and bullion amount to £10,600,00, or £100,000 less than last week. Consols tire at 100|. The market rate discount is 2§ per cent or -|- per cent below the minimum bank rate. New Zealand 5 per cent 10-40 loan 101^ ; 4£ per cent 5-30 loan, 09* ; '1 per cent inscribed stock, 98. (SrKCIAI TO THE PItKSS ASSOCIATION.) g (Received 11.30 a.m., Oct. 15th.) THE NEW ZEALAND LOAN. London, Oct. 14. The tenders for the New Zealand loan of £1,567,800, amounted to £2,100,000. Tenders at £97 and sixpence will receive m full. There were 416 tenders. One syndicate tendered for three-quarters of a million, at £97 Is 6d. THE IMPERIAL INSTITUTE. A meeting took place to-day between tbe Lord Mayor and the AgentsGeneral, on the subject of tbe proposed Imperial Institute. Tbe result of the conference , which was adjourned for a week, baa not been made known. Tbe Agents- General refuse to give any information, on the ground that all are pledged to secrecy for the present. OBITUARY. Kennedy, the well-known Scotcb vocalist, is dead. [Received 4.50 p.m., Oct. ISth.l THE BISHOP OF MELBOURNE. Tbe Archbishop of Canterbury will consecrate the Rev. F, F. Goe to tbe Bishopric of Melbourne m January. Mr Goe will sail for Melbourne m February. THE IMPERIAL INSTITUTE. Tbe City bankers are urging that the Imperial element m the proposed Imperial Institute Bhould be increased. The Lord Mayor will see the Prince of Wales m reference to the Institute, and will disclose his plans on Wednesday. THE BRITISH NAVY. Lord Charles Beresi'ord's memorandum regarding the condition of the British navy has attracted much attention. It is surmised that the object is to obtain popular support for the Government over the large projects they have m view. CUTTING THE CABLES. He received an ovation from the crowd which assembled to witness his departure. A DIFFICULTY AVERTED. Ottawa, Oct. 14. The difficulty which had arisen between the Canadian and United States Governments, by seizure by the former of an American Bchooner which failed to report at the Customs, has been amicably settled.
