Young Wellington's sire, Old Wellington (imported), was a puro Clydesdale, counted one of the best horses imported into Cantorbury. Young Wellington was flrat shown at Ashburton, as a yearling, taking first prize against five others. In I>-81 he was shown at Timaru and took first prize, beating five others. At tho Timaru Agricultural and Pastoral Association's Show, 1883, he took first prizo for tho best bred Clydesdale Stallion, first prizo for All-aged Stallions, and the Champion Prizo against tho field ; at the Timaru Show m JSB4 be took first prizo, and again m 1885 he took second prize.
