A deputation waited upon the Premier and pointed out that tho specifications for the manufacture of telegraph insulators wero of such a character as to preclude local competition. If altered 50 or 60 men m the colony could find employment. Sir R. Stout replied that tho Government desired to encourago local industries where it was possible, but Dr Lemon was of opinion that tuitable clay could not be obtained m the colony. He understood that if tho insulators ■were manufactured hero tho clay would have to bo imported. If ouitablo materials wore obtainable hero preference would bo given at o slight increase. Ho would communicate ■with Sir Julius Yogol.
