(By Telegraph.) Auckland, Sept-. 20. A man named Gearsted was found drowned m a garden tank at Mason's gardens, Parnell, to-day. Ho was manager at Mason's, but how ho fell m and got drowned is a mystery. Bir Maurice O'Borke baa this day issued a Speaker's warrant to the Clerk of Writs to issue a new writ for the election of a member for Dunedin Central m room of the latejilr J. B. Bradshaw. The body of ft man of 60 yenrs of ago was found m the Waihao, near To Aroha. Ho had grey hair and beard, and was apparently a school teacherout of employment, as an application to the Secretary of the Board of Kducalion at Now Plymouth for a testimonial and a certificate was found m a pocket. Auckland, Sept. 20. The Sfannponri was on her arriral found to have a case of measles on board, and was anchored m the stream, the passengers not being allowed to land, pending instructions from Wellington. Tlio health officer visited the vessel, and found the case of measles wns a child named Striker, who, with its parents are from Wellington. Gbbymoutii, Sept. 20. John Treasnrea, a resident at Brunncrton, committed suicide this morning by deliberately walking into the Grey river, near tho Chinaman's gardens. Ho was fully clad, but those who saw him wore too far away to prevent him. InVBBCAKCIILIi. Sept. 20. The Invercargill Firo Brigade at a moeting to-night considered the draft programmo roceived from tho Demonstration Committee m Dunedin. Tho majority of members wero m favor o£ entering for the competition, but before doing so resolved to ask whether visitors who may not bo able to take their own apparatus would be allowed to uso that of tho Dunedin competitors. The opinion was expressed that entries would be considerably more numerous if the Demonstration Committee could assure competitors on this point as dissatisfaction was expressed on the previous occasion re giving visitors defective apparatus to compete with.
