The Australian cricketers commenced a match to-day at Gravesend against South England. The team was composed as follows : — Patterson, Kesb, W. W. Read (Surrey), Bowley, Lohmann, Maurice Read (Surrey), G. G. Heai-n, F. Hearn, Wooten, (Kent), Jesse Hide, Humphries (Sussex), and Woof (Gloucestershire). The weather was fine, and there was a very large attendance. The Australians went m first, and remained at the wickets until the stumps were drawn for the day, when the score stood at 282 with seven wickets down. The highest contributors were Palmer, caught, 93, and Bonnar, caught, 43.
