« SHOCKING TALE OF BRUTALITY AND KEGLECX. (By Telegraph.) CnKiSTCHTTECir, July 29. An inqnest was held to-day on the body of Mrs Kathorine Bees, wife of George Manning Bees, jo, printer, residing at Knight's Town, a suburb of Christchurch. Tho inquest resulted m a verdict of manslaughter against tho husband. Tho evidence Bhowed that Mrs Bees had died rather suddenly on Wednesday evening. She had been ailing for some months, and had been discharged from the hospital six weeks ngo. Bees was m the habit of drinking too much, and his wife had complained to a constable shortly before her death that lie had struck her several times when she was ill and handled her roughly. The deceased had sometimes been known to drink excessively. Corroborative evidenco was given as to the bad conduct of Bees to his wife, but ho denied the allegations. It was stated that a minister of religion had to provide nourishment for the woman and her family m consequence of Bceß* neglect. Tho medical evidence Bhowed that tho woman had suffered from pulmonary consumption, and was m such a, stato that any rough treatment would hasten death. The jury found that death was accelorated by goneral neglect, and this was tantamount to a verdict of manslaughter, upon which charge Bees was forthwith arrested. ___^______
