SERIOUS STABBING AFFRAY AT CHRISTCHURCH.

(By Telegraph.) Crbistobcboh. July 26. A ease of stabbing occurred here to-night, m whioh the perpetrator was George Brown, • lodging-b.ou.-e keeper, and tbe sufferer a young man named Thomas McMnhon. It appears that Brown had been the worse for liquor all day, and was quarrelling with McMahon m the evening. At the young man was going into the dining-room Brown rushed at him with an open penknife. McMahon knocked down hia assailant, but he rose and stabbed McMahon m the left hip. Brown was overpowered, and subtequently arrested on a charge of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.
