The weather to-day was very fine, and a large number of people were abroad, bent on enjoying the holiday. THE WAKATIPTJ. The 8.8. Wakatipu arrived from Wellington on Saturday nigbt. COLONIAL DEFENCE. The Hon. Mr Gillies, the Premier of Victoria, and the Hon. Mi* Griffiths, Premier of Queensland, are at present m Sydney, and will meet the Premier of this colony, to discuss a general scheme of defence for the Australian seaboard. WRECK OF THEjESK. News is to hand that the Tastnanian Steam Navigation Company's Esk has been wrecked near Low Head, at the entrance to Tamoria. The crew and passengers were able to effect a landing, and no lives were lost.
