The Supreme Court has been occupied for the last two days hearing the case of Frank McDowell v. James McDowell, draper, of Wellington, the action being brought to recover £500 damages for malicious prosecution arising out of several charges of embezzlement preferred by the present defendant against Frank McDowell, who had been m his employ as a travelling aaleeman, all of which had been dismissed. At midnight tho jury returned a verdict m favor of the plaintiff, and awarded him £75 damages, with costs against defendant. S. T. Lee has been appointed returning officer for the Sydenham election. The further appointment of county chairman as conservators of State forests, is gazetted. The H Battery of Artillery (Volson) has been transferred from the South Island brigade to the North Island brigade. Blenheim, April 22. The steamer Charles Edward has just left for "Wanganui with the Nelson volunteers who, to the number of 252, will tako part m the JSastcr encampment there. Beetham, R.M., yesterday fined a publican £10 and costs for supplying a drunken man with liquor.
