Vernon Harcourt, Chancellor, oi the Exchequer, made his Budget Statement m the House of Commons to-night. The revenue for the financial year just closed amounts to L 89,500,000, and expenditure for the same period to L 92,000,000, or L 2,750,000 more than the revenue.' The revenue for the ensuing financial year is estimated at L 90,500,000, and expenditure ( . at L 89,875,000. The revenue from customs and excise on alcoholio beverages for the twelve .months was £1,000,000 below the ' estimate. It is proposed to meet the deficiency by talcing LBOO.OOO from the sinking fund. No increase' of -taxation is contemplated. THE POWERS REPLY. CONSTANTINOPLE, April 15. His Majesty the Sultan has received from England, Austria, Germany, and Russia, replies to his request for action on the part of the Powers regarding the threatening attitude of Greece towards Turkey, and tba disinclination of the Greek Government to disarm when called upon to do so. Earl Derby and the Duke of Argyle wrote expressing their concurrence with' the motion before the meeting. The Marquis of Hartington denied the competence of the present Parliament to enact a- measure ;which would have the effect of bringing about all the evils of separation without any ol its benefits, The Marquis of Salisbury and Mr Goschen delivered eloquent orations, and met with a splendid reception.
